News pisses me off.
Today I was accidentally sitting in front of the TV and it happened to be tuned
into the news and I noticed that they were doing a report on "GTA: San
Andreas". Apparently, a year and a half after the game has been released (also a
month after it has been released for the PC), it has come to the attention of
some jerks on the 10:00 news that there is a pornographic scene you can unlock
in San Andreas. They interviewed this like 11-year old kid and asked him all
about it - and the funny thing is, he was like smiling all along and they were
the ones "talking about how bad it is". Anyway, I really don't get why they have
to spoil video games a year and a half after it comes out, and repackage it as a
"cleaner, less fun-to-play, game". It's not like anyone who was even remotely
interested in the game hasn't purchased it by now...
Also, they were showing the scene and it didn't really look too bad to me --just
some chicks dancing around in bikinis... What the hell? In "Vice City", you get
to screw a prostitute (your health goes up but your money slowly counts down),
and then you can murder her and get your money back -- and that isn't a problem,
but a scene with some chicks dancing around in bikinis is. This is what I get
for being a little too drunk at the time and not immediately changing the channel to
something more important, like the baby-murdering channel, or the Unreal
Tournament channel.
One time I was watching TV (again, a mistake, I was probably drunk at the time)
and I saw a special on video games. They showed 30 seconds of "Postal 2" and
mentioned how they think the game is "a bit vulgar", and then went on to bashing
GTA, because everyone loves to bash GTA. Now I've played Postal 2. It goes
something like this: Wake up, scream at your wife, whack off your neighbor's
head with a gardening shovel, kick it around a bit, go back to the body, piss on
it, pour some gasoline on it, light it up; go to church, take a dump in the
confession booth, rape a little boy, etc, etc. Some of these events may not
actually happen -- it's been a long time since I've played the game, but what
I've said is pretty much, if not completely, accurate. It's funny how they just
show that game and laugh at it, and then continue bashing that game that
everyone loves to bash.
On another note, I read this article somewhere, and this guy mentioned the fact that people love bashing video games and
love to blame the creators for the stuff their dumbass kids do, so he suggested
that the next time a kid gets arrested for throwing bricks off an overpass on
top of
a highway, we should just go blame the Russian guy who invented Tetris. Okay, I
thought that was pretty damn funny...
So what's the point of this article? Perhaps nothing, but I think that articles
written by people in their basements kick TV news any day. Howard
Stern is sort of alright, like you get to find out who got beaten over the back
naked with a fish, today, but that isn't exactly news.
News. The other day I heard this guy in a comedy club say "Sometimes porno can
be news. Like the other day I was watching this porno and to me it was "news"
that you can actually stick your
entire fist up someone's ass". Yeah. Anyway I'd give credit, if only I knew who to
give it to....
UPDATE (7/14/2005): About the GTA: San Andreas (sex) scene: Apparently I didn't know what the hell I was talking about. It appears to have been some custom mod some kid brew up in his basement... All the more reason for them to not be wasting my valuable commercial time during Family Guy. Also, there might have actually been some T&A in there... And just to put my own two sense into the thing; mentioning it on the news probably got more people to download it, not less...
